These delicious nut free Apple Pie Bliss Bites are a fantastic nut free snack for school lunchboxes. Made with no refined or added sugars and sweetened only with fruit these delicious Apple Pie Bliss Balls will be a lunchbox hit.
There is one lunchbox snack that I have been digging lately and that is bliss bites (or if you prefer bliss balls, energy balls or snack balls). And these nut free Apple Pie Bliss Bites are no exception. They are the first thing that Mr 7 will go for in his lunchbox. And do you know what? That really is not a problem. And I will tell you why.
Even though these bliss balls are naturally sweetened with fruit, they are not so great for teeth. Often dried fruit is stickier and stays on our teeth which provides opportunity for cavities to develop.
So encouraging kids to actually eat their Apple Pie Bliss Balls first is actually a great thing from a tooth perspective. What I like to do is make sure there are crunchy vegetables packed in the lunchbox which will help clean Mr 7’s teeth…that is, if he actually decides to eat them. The veggies that is, not the bliss balls!
So that being said, these nut free Apple Pie Bliss Bites are not an everyday lunchbox snack. But they are SO good every now and then.
Storing the Apple Pie Bliss Balls
These bliss balls need to be stored in the fridge and I have stored for several days in the fridge. They freeze well and will last around 2 to 3 months. I store these bliss balls in a container rather than free flow so they don’t stick together.

These are my favourite bliss balls and I love how easy they are to make. My son loves rolling and coating them with coconut.
We love these ones too – so great to make with the kids! Bernadette x
I was hoping to make this recipe but I only have tinned apples, since this recipe is quite wet would tinned apples be OK and if so what other adjustments would you make to accommodate them(if any)?
It would make the recipe very wet, you could add more oats and coconut to absorb the liquid. Bernadette x
Hi, I’m excited to try this but I’ve also been reading a lot about the importance of soaking oats (and all grains) to aid digestion and remove some of the phytic acid. I imagine if I presoaked the oats, they would be too wet for this recipe and ruin the texture? But I’ve also heard raw oats aren’t great for us without soaking. Do you have any thoughts or ideas on this?
Katie
To be honest I am not sure about this at all as I am not a food scientist. I would be really interested to understand the science around this practice. These is a wetter recipe so I don’t think it would work as well as the oats do soften a lot anyway as the absorb the liquid from the apple. Bernadette
Absolutely fantastic recipe! Love it!
Thanks so much Inga! So glad you love this one, Bernadette x
Such an amazing recipe. So quick to make and my kids demolished half of them before they made it to the freezer. Will double the recipe next time. Thanks Bernadette for such healthy quick recipes that are both parent and kid approved.
Thanks so much Sharlene! We love these ones too, Bernadette x
Love this recipe! The balls are delicious (approved by the kids!) and it was so easy to make. Planned to put them in the freezer for school lunches but not sure if they’ll make it in there before we eat them all! Yum! Might be off to make another batch… thanks for another great recipe!
Thanks so much Adi! We love these too 😋 Bernadette x
Such a tasty, quick and easy recipe, my 2 year loves them and they freeze well!
Thanks so much for making these – we love them too! Bernadette x
I like your recipes, but this one is really gross. So powdery and just not nice at all. I wish I didn’t go buy all the expensive ingredients for it!
That’s really unusual as normally this recipe is very moist and wet. I have made this recipe so many times as have others without that experience. It sounds as if the fresh apple was omitted, or the fresh apple you used was very very floury and maybe smaller than what I use. Possibly also the dates were not medjool. Bernadette x
Hi Bernadette
Being paleo based we can’t have oats, is there a substitute we can use instead
You could try sunflower seeds and peppitas instead, thanks Bernadette x
hey Bernadette,
for how long can you store the bliss balls in the fridge?
I have stored them for around 4 days. You can freeze them to though for around 2-3 months. Thanks Bernadette
Would it be suitable to substitute something for the dried apple? I want to make these but don’t have any at the moment
You could substitute with equal weight of raisins or dates. Enjoy, Bernadette x
Made these for my son’s lunchbox this week. It is super yummy and son liked the taste and texture. The only change I made was to skip the coconut as he does not like them! 🙂
would they be fine without coconut? as my children’s school is nut, coconut and chick pea free, so it makes it hard when you want to make healthier snacks 😂
You will have to add in some extra oats as the coconut absorbs quite a bit of moisture and these can be quite wet, hope you enjoy them! Bernadette x
Hello 🙂 the dried Apple come in Rings? Or how can i buy It? ( I want ti buy It Here in Germany)
I am not sure how it is sold in Germany. The dried apple should be chewy in texture not crunchy. Thanks Bernadette
