Hello everyone! I am writing from the beach and am feeling R E L A X E D. We are on holiday up in Bargara, a coastal town in the Bundaberg region. It is quite regional and driving up here we really had the sense we are in the country. We have seen kangaroos in the wild and there are crops and orchards everywhere. But, really what we came for was the beach! Bargara has an amazing beach (which is also patrolled which is fantastic) and the kids have been loving it here. But I am missing my kitchen! Do you do that when you are away? Or am I the only one?! I have created a few recipes lately that are sweetened only with fruit and contain no added refined sugars or sugar replacers. And these recipes are great options for school lunches. So I have pulled together some amazing refined sugar free recipes from some fantastic kid food bloggers in this post 20 Lunchbox Snacks Sweetened Only with Fruit.
So why is fruit a great option for a sweetener rather than sugar or sugar replacers like honey or maple syrup? Firstly, fruit is full of fibre which is important in a healthy diet and helps to full us up. And secondly fruit has more nutrients than sugars and sugar replacers, so baking with fruit instead of added sugars means you are adding a lot more nutrients to your baking. What I think is important to note though, is that kids should still be getting plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and these baked options are a healthier alternative for snacks. Anyway, lets get on to the 20 lunchbox snacks sweetened only with fruit!
