Description

These Low Sugar Festive Spiced Cookies are the perfect edible gift. This simple recipe will be a favourite with your family and because they are low in sugar they are are fantastic for class parties at Christmas.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp all spice
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (fresh if available)
  • 100g butter softened
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 180c and line your baking tray
  2. In a large bowl with an electric beater mix the butter until it’s pale and light
  3. Add the maple syrup and egg and beat into the mixture
  4. Add the baking powder and spices and mix well
  5. With a spatula, carefully stir through the flour and mix into a dough, being careful not to overmix
  6. Turn out, bring together in a ball and wrap in glad wrap and chill in the fridge for around 20 minutes
  7. When the dough has chilled roll the dough out and using cookie cutters cut the cookies from the dough
  8. Bake each cookie for around 6-8 minutes until lightly golden
  9. When the cookies are cold decorate with royal icing if desired

Notes

These cookies freeze well so perfect for preparing in November ready for the busyness of Christmas. Defrost at room temperature for around 20 minutes before eating.
